Rodent genus Dasyprocta is comprised of several species and is related to guinea pigs. Agoutis are 16-25 inches in length and weigh from 2-9 pounds. They have coarse glossy hair varying in color from tawny to dark brown and sport a short bald tail. Agoutis inhabit parts of Central America, the West Indies and northern South America. They can also be found in the Death Valley region of California during a 2-day stint in October.
